Fall 2020 Program Updates

For Fall 2020, the Field study and Internship programs in all five cities will be subject to the following adjustments* (grade report and suggested credit will remain unchanged):

1. The semester will include both distance and on-site learning. Students will spend 3 months on-site in Europe avoiding, in most cases, the need for a visa.
2. The program will begin in a distance-learning format before students arrive in Europe.
3. The internship length will be eight weeks.
4. The program will continue for four weeks after students’ departure from Europe.

A detailed look at the Fall 2020 schedule and format, for all IFE programs

The programs will run from August 20th to December 18th:

August 20th-26th: A period of preparation and intercultural training at home in the US, in small group “Zoom’s” with IFE staff.
August 30th-September 25th: A period of courses, site visits, workshops and other activities on-site in Europe in preparation for an internship.
October 1st-November 24th: An 8 week full-time internship and a weekly seminar
November 26th- December 18th: Return home to finish work on the independent research paper based on internship work, and complete the weekly seminar, online.

*If permitted by host government and health organization regulations

N.B. IFE will continue to adapt to both US and European realities, confident in its networks and expertise to deliver an intensive and rewarding semester abroad this Fall. Given whatever constraints are in effect at that time it may look a bit different, but the core IFE objectives of language and inter-cultural learning, and gaining an inside perspective on European society, will be met. Some things don’t change!
