Location
The University of Oviedo’s lovely Gijón campus, set at the edge of the city, a ten-minute bus ride from downtown, is home to IFE’s Asturias Center.
Local Staff
Program Coordinator, Lorena Rodríguez Álvarez
Lorena teaches Spanish-as-a-Second-Language at the University of Oviedo. Her teaching experience includes Calvin College in the US as well as the Institut Cervantès and the Alliance française in Gijón. Holding a second-level Master’s degree in Spanish Philology from the University of Oviedo, Lorena is pursuing doctoral research in linguistics and second-language acquisition, with a focus on vocabulary acquisition.
Working closely with IFE central administration, Lorena is responsible for local coordination and operation of IFE Asturias programs, including organizing the preparatory period, arranging field placement and on-site followup and evaluation, student life, and housing.
Housing
Students are housed with Spanish-speaking host families, located in safe and lively neighborhoods within the city limits of Gijón.
