From Paris to Seoul, IFE student sees all sides of fashion

Name: Jina P.
Undergraduate major field(s): Studio Art & Economics
Goals for her Paris Field Study semester: “Incorporate my background in visual arts and economics and gain insight on the working environment of the fashion industry in France.”
Placement: Paris-based fashion brand
Responsibilities as intern:
 Negotiate with South Korean licensees and fashion retail companies in discussions of contract renewal and brand promotion
 Assist product manager and legal advisor in store checks, business meetings and market research
 Participate in the direction of collections, giving feedback on new design proposals
 Edit publicity images for accessories collection on company website
Subject of research: The Next Stage: Re-positioning a fashion brand on the South-Korean market
And... Jina transitioned from the business to the design side of fashion, studying at Parsons school of design and the Central Saint Martin’s school of art .

Coffee or Café? Intercultural communications in a multinational company

Name: Karen M.
Undergraduate major field(s): Process Management and Consulting & Anthropology
Goals for her Paris Field Study semester: To explore the effect of cultural differences on business practices while gaining valuable international business experience
Placement: French international advertising agency
Responsibilities as intern:
 Coordinating different communications projects: sending promotional materials and information on copyright laws to different countries
 Participate in strategic planning around growth margins
 Provide the team in Paris with necessary information to situate the brand in the local market.
 Produce case studies, analyzing market trends and other elements affecting the brand and its competitors
Subject of research: The Influence of Corporate Strategy and Cultural Characteristics on the Success of Communications at Nestlé
And... Karen was able to extend her internship through the summer.

Marketing major agrees that cultural learning is a contact sport

Name: Molly G.
Undergraduate major field: Marketing
Goals for her Paris Field Study: "To continue learning about French language and culture that I have come to know and love throughout the past eight years. I knew IFE was the perfect place for this when I read in their brochure that cultural learning ’is a contact sport’. "
Placement: Bedouk Meetings & Events Media (leading European meetings and events planning agency)
Responsibilities as intern:
 Work as an assistant in the marketing department.
 Maintain and develop a data base of all destinations utilized by Bedouk worldwide.
 Make client phone calls gobally, gather information, update existing data
 Assist department head in all phases of preparation for Bedouk’s participation in a major international Meeting Planners trade show to be held in Spain.
Subject of research: The Theory of Marketing Mix: History and Application in the Meeting Industry
And... In her final evaluation of Molly’s work her supervisor at Bedouk wrote: "the progress Molly made as a professional and in her self-confidence was nothing short of spectacular – bravo!"

A bonne journée for brand positioning

Name: Alexandria H.
Undergraduate major field(s): Sociology
Goals for her Paris Field Study semester: To learn how French communication and marketing differs from the U.S. and to get an idea of the overall business climate in France.
Placement: International operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations
Responsibilities as intern:
 Work on a partner satisfaction survey, translating and creating action plans based on the results
 Plan future surveys with other partners
 Create tools for listings and orders on-site
 Assist in various market studies to be presented to the French marketing committee of the company
Subject of research: Positioning a Brand: Case study of Bonne Journée, a brand of SSP
And... Her internship served as the perfect introduction to the field and prepared her well for her job as a trade marketing manager in Paris.
